Quick start
Create your first research task
These steps are for users who already have the desktop app. See the download page for public installer availability.
Configure a model
Open the user menu → Settings → Models. Choose a provider and model, enter its API key and save the configuration. If prompted to quit and restart the app, follow that instruction.
Saving a configuration does not confirm that requests work. Test the connection with a simple, non-sensitive question. Never put API keys in chat messages or share them with others.
Create your first task
- Open New task and describe your research question and the output you need.
- Choose the working folder, project, model and task permissions as needed.
- Use Add content to attach material, or reference workspace files with @.
- Send the task, then follow its progress and ask further questions on the task page.
The first message in a new task uses Default mode. In an existing task, use Add content in the reply composer to switch to Ask for read-only discussion, or Plan to review a plan before execution.
Specify the source material, output format and files that must not change. Back up original material before tasks that write to files.
Inspect results and files
Open the results panel on the task page to view the overview, outputs, workspace files, browser and changes. Open supported files in the preview; use the available open-in-app action for other formats.
Before submitting research, check references and page numbers, review data and methods, and inspect file changes. Information that was not reported is not a verified fact.
When something goes wrong
- A task cannot start or a model is unavailable
- Check that your input is not blank, the model and API key are configured, and you can access the working folder. Restart if prompted and try once more.
- A result preview fails to load
- Use the retry action in the preview card or results panel before resubmitting the entire task.
- A folder cannot be read
- Select a working folder you can access. Do not grant access to the whole computer to resolve a single folder problem.
- Further help
- Check the available Help and feedback options in desktop settings, or contact whoever supplied your test build. Include the version, operating system, reproduction steps and redacted screenshots. Do not include API keys or sensitive material.
